Flashback to welcome days, class of 2024

The start of the 2024 academic year at Institut Lyfe was marked by a freshers’ week full of activities and excitement, combining both sociable and formal occasions. This key event ensured a warm welcome to the unique world of Institut Lyfe for the 300 new undergraduate students hailing from all around the world. We take a look back over a week that gave students a taste of their future student life, through opportunities for exchange and exploration.

A tailor-made welcome for international students

For the freshers’ week, international students enrolled in the Bachelor’s and MSc – Master of Science programmes were given advance access to the Institut Lyfe campus. The initiative aims to provide a comprehensive and immersive experience of our culture, customs, and language, while also offering the opportunity to explore Lyon. Over the course of three days, students were fully supported throughout a programme that combined administrative assistance, intercultural activities, and guided tours of the “city of gastronomy”.

This tailor-made integration programme, designed specifically for students from close to 45 different nationalities, was created to help them adapt to their new environment, in which we are certain they will flourish.

Five days of team building

Whether enrolled in the Bachelor’s in International Hospitality and Restaurant Management, the Bachelor’s in International Culinary Arts Management or the Bachelor’s in International Pastry Management, our 300 new students share a common dream: to be a part of Institut Lyfe, a school inspired by Paul Bocuse and Gérard Pélisson, where passion and excellence are woven into the fabric of daily life for students and educators.

Most of our new students have just finished high school and are discovering the world of higher education. After applying to Parcoursup – for students qualified with a French baccalaureate – it was time to start out on their first year! A year that kicks off with the long-awaited freshers’ week, a pivotal event for all students joining us to enjoy the Institut Lyfe experience.

Key moments and unforgettable memories

This first week is a crucial period that marks the beginning of the adventure for our new students. It provides an opportunity to meet the teaching staff who will support them throughout their studies, during a welcome session chaired by Dominique Giraudier, CEO of Institut Lyfe. This is followed by a series of highlights, including a meeting with the year-group patrons, the grand banquet, and the procession where the students wear their new uniforms for the first time and are presented with the pins that indicate their induction into Institut Lyfe. The week was rounded off with a traditional Lyonnaise mâchon breakfast, and a meeting with our graduates, who represent the pride of our school.

Discovering student life

Freshers’ week is the perfect opportunity for our new students to discover all the possibilities Institut Lyfe has to offer. With a dynamic campus life and numerous student associations to join, our students benefit from unique opportunities to forge strong links with their fellow scholars and get involved in practical projects that complement their academic training. Our freshers were able to take advantage of the welcome activities to learn about the eight associations on campus and build their first connections.

The traditional “white party” was also an opportunity for the class of 2024 to familiarise themselves with the campus and their new classmates. The evening took place in the Parc du Vivier, beside the Paul Bocuse Campus, where the 2nd year students took the reins to deliver a memorable evening of exchange and conviviality.
