Our students travel to the four corners of the globe
Faire défiler la pageThe Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality and Restaurant Management includes an international experience as an unmissable and mandatory component. In their third year, students travel to the four corners of the globe for international placements or a semester studying at one of our partner universities. These immersive experiences transform, shape and prepare them for the future, placing them in multicultural environments where autonomy, adaptability and openness are key.
Laura, Clara, Maximilien, Merine and Célia tell us about their experiences during their international journeys.
Next stop Sweden: university exchange blending nature, autonomy and Fika
Laura Devron and Clara Guglielmi, 3rd-year students on the Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality and Restaurant Management have already studied abroad. This year, they chose to head to Kristianstad University, in Sweden, through an international exchange.
Their stay was marked by the renowned ritual of Fika: sociable breaks over coffee and local pastries which allowed them to get to the heart of Swedish culture, where autonomy and kindness were features of their daily lives.
It’s the most wonderful experience I’ve ever had. I’ve gained in openness, confidence and a real desire to discover the world. – Laura
Thanks to trips organised to Stockholm, Lapland and Helsinki, the two students took advantage of their time abroad to enjoy tourist activities and make the most of this Erasmus exchange, enriched with numerous encounters. This Nordic immersion rich in discoveries has strengthened both their academic and personal development.
International exchange in Thailand: a total change of scenery
Maximilian Krongrad, a 3rd-year student on the Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality and Restaurant Management, opted to join Dusit Thani College in Bangkok for his international experience. Immersed in a vibrant and intense city, he quickly adapted to a new rhythm of life, mixing Thai traditions with fast-paced modernity – a world away from Lyon. As the only student attending from Institut Lyfe, he happily embraced the challenge, in a country far removed from France.
I had to learn to adapt to a totally new environment, far from Lyon. The school helped me integrate perfectly, and I had the opportunity to take part in major professional events, such as the Dusit Thani Bangkok pre-opening events.
From spicy culinary discoveries to a stimulating international environment and practical cases deeply rooted in the local context, Maximilien has improved his English, expanded his network and developed his ability to seize opportunities.
This experience has given me valuable tools for my professional future. It’s made me more mature, more curious, and even more determined to work in Asia after my studies.
The American Dream in Florida: Rosen College of Hospitality Management
Celia Buchot and Merina Soltani, 3rd-year students on the Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality and Restaurant Management, completed a semester at the Rosen College in Florida: a benchmark university in hospitality management training. The experience exceeded all their expectations.
The standard of living was exceptional, the residence was magnificent, and the opportunities endless: interesting courses, rich student life, and ideal weather. A real American dream.
The subjects they explored included: events, mixology and theme park management, alongside weekends in discovery mode. Enjoying tourist activities and the diversity of Florida, Célia and Merine lived the American dream during this Erasmus exchange, before returning to complete their 4th-year studies in Lyon.
I was impressed by the Americans’ open-mindedness, their ability to engage, to quickly create a connection. It taught me to express myself better, both verbally and in writing.
International experiences: a hallmark of Institut Lyfe, a springboard for the future
These international immersive experiences, as diverse as the destinations chosen, play a common defining role in our students’ journeys. Beyond developing technical and linguistic skills, they also foster true intercultural adaptability, a taste for challenge, curiosity about the world and self-confidence: a host of valuable soft skills for future leaders in the global hospitality and restaurant management industry.
The world is a classroom, and we receive some of the most valuable lessons beyond the school walls.
