Immersion in the short programs of Institut Lyfe

Faire défiler la pageEvery year for more than 20 years, students from all over the world have gathered on Institut Lyfe campus to enjoy a unique academic and social experience for a few weeks.
Through the short-term programs offered by Institut Lyfe, these students come to develop their skills in culinary arts or hospitality while discovering French excellence. These programs, taught in English, combine learning, professional immersion, and the opportunity to explore a rich multicultural environment.
Short-term programs available at Institut Lyfe
Two short programs taught entirely in English on the Institut Lyfe campus: the Hospitality Management short program and the Culinary Arts short program.
Each program allows students to deepen their knowledge in complementary fields of expertise: they combine academic instruction, hands-on practice, field trips, and immersive experiences!
The short program in hospitality management
Over the course of three weeks, students enrolled in the short-term hospitality management program explore topics such as the history and culture of beverages, luxury, and corporate social responsibility, as well as learning beverage tasting techniques. Visits to vineyards and prestigious establishments in Lyon—including hotels and restaurants—are also part of the program to complement the theoretical courses.
In 2026, the first edition of the hospitality management summer program took place: a class made up entirely of women, with students coming all the way from Mexico and Lithuania!
I come from a culinary background, and this experience—enrolling in the short-term hospitality program—was extremely enriching from both a professional and personal standpoint. If I had to name my favorite parts of the program, I’d say it was the classes, which taught me a great deal, but also the field trips, which allowed me to visit hotels and restaurants that I might never have seen from a hospitality perspective.

The short program in culinary arts
Designed for students who wish to enhance their mastery of culinary techniques, the short-term culinary arts program immerses participants in the world of French gastronomy. With modules in cooking, pastry, and baking; hands-on experience in the kitchens of our Michelin-starred training restaurant, Saisons; and participation in the Lyon Street Food Festival—the largest street food event in Lyon—students enjoy an unforgettable 10-week experience on the Institut Lyfe campus!
This short program in culinary arts helped me grow professionally: I was able to build on the culinary skills I had learned at Conestoga College in Canada by adding new techniques and refining methods I hadn’t mastered before.

International experience within the Alliance network
The Alliance network, founded in 2004, brings together institutions of higher education that share a common goal: to train future hospitality professionals by promoting international exchanges and the sharing of expertise among its members.
Through the short programs in hospitality management and culinary arts, students have the opportunity to enhance their academic experience with an immersive experience on a world-class campus.
During their stay in Lyon, the capital of gastronomy, they study alongside students who, like them, come from all corners of the world, and discover the Institut Lyfe’s outstanding educational approach.
In addition to the technical skills we’ve learned in the kitchen, this short program has allowed us to discover other cultures: I’ve had the opportunity to visit the city of Lyon many times, dine at incredible restaurants, and immerse myself in the city. Engaging with other cultures through all the international students in the program helps us grow, both professionally and personally. I’ll always remember the chefs who shared their knowledge with us throughout these 10 weeks!

Beyond the knowledge gained, short programs offer a truly personal experience. Spending several weeks in an international environment and working alongside students from around the world helps students develop the intercultural skills that have become essential in the hospitality and culinary arts industries. They leave enriched, having learned new technical skills but, above all, with memories that will last a lifetime!
