Exchanges and placements abroad

Academic exchanges, double degrees, placements abroad: Institut Lyfe offers multiple global opportunities to enrich your learning journey! Going abroad is an opportunity to experience new cultures and explore different traditions while perfecting your technical, linguistic and soft skills and building a global professional network.

In a sector where excellence and open-mindedness are essential, an international experience strengthens your CV and shapes you into an industry expert who is curious, adaptable, open and confident.

At Institut Lyfe, we believe that travel nurtures maturity, self-discovery and global citizenship.

Your passport to the world awaits!

At Institut Lyfe, international experience is not optional, but a cornerstone of our courses.

Mandatory international experience during your undergraduate degree course will last a minimum of four months and may take one of the following forms:

  • An academic exchange for one semester at one of our partner universities.
  • An international placement – a true springboard for your professional career.

We offer our students high-level international opportunities, in the most popular tourist destinations, whether for placements or academic exchanges.

International placements: your career accelerator

Each year, placements of four to six months allow you to apply the skills you have acquired and gain real-world professional expertise in France or abroad, building on your previous work-experience with us. Are you a globetrotter, dreaming of exploring the professional world beyond France?

Your 2nd- or 3rd-year placement (depending on your course) will provide the chance to explore the realities of careers in gastronomy and hospitality on a global scale, in prestigious establishments.

This international placement allows you to gain clarity on your professional goals, discover new management and business organization methods, experiment with different culinary styles, and understand the challenges faced by international hospitality and restaurant businesses. You will rapidly develop your global professional network, while gaining solid professional experience in multicultural environments and teams.

This placement will make your resume stand out with French recruiters looking for adaptable people with international experience, as well as with international companies, who value French expertise in the gastronomy and service sectors.

Beyond everything that this placement has brought me on a professional level (covering topics from pricing to revenue management and marketing for visibility), it is above all an incredible adventure on a personal level. Living in the heart of Balinese culture, meeting people from all over the world, evolving in such a unique and exotic setting, all of this has completely expanded my perspective.

Gabriel, 4th year student, Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality Management, placement in Bali at Pertama Management (Property Management).

Embarking on an international placement means obtaining unparalleled experience and a global network.

For my 2nd-year placement, I wanted to discover the Nordic countries, and the Faroe Islands in particular, especially for their wild and vibrant character. The landscapes were sublime and traditions strongly felt. From this great experience, I’ll always remember the importance of adapting constantly, as well as the wonderful sharing of cultures!

Fanny, student on the Bachelor’s in International Culinary Arts Management, placement at gourmet restaurant Raest, Faroe Islands

Financing your studies abroad

To support the international mobility of our students, financial aid is available:

The Erasmus+ Scholarship

The Erasmus+ scholarship supports Institut Lyfe students in their academic mobility or placement. It is accessible in the majority of European countries participating in the Erasmus+ program, with a monthly amount that varies by destination country. Additional aid is available, such as the inclusion allowance, dependent on eligibility.

You can apply for a European Union scholarship which contributes to the costs related to mobility. This is a lump-sum award and incorporates the cost of living in the destination country.

Institut Lyfe holds an Erasmus + Charter

The BRMIE Scholarship

The BRMIE Scholarship from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region for International Student Mobility (BRMIE scholarship) provides financial support to Institut Lyfe students for placements or study abroad. It applies to all destinations, and the amount varies according to the annual budget allocated by the Region. Supplements may be granted, in particular for CROUS scholarship holders or students with disabilities.

Mobility Grant from Institut Lyfe Foundation

The Mobility Grant from Institut Lyfe Foundation supports students not eligible for the Erasmus+ or regional government scholarships. The amount is reviewed each year and cannot exceed €1,500.

Our Student Affairs service will assist in the appraisal of your application and guide you through the administrative procedures (mandatory documents, certificates, insurance, etc.), to help you access the funding available for international mobility.

Why go abroad?

Living abroad during your studies allows you to immerse yourself in a country and its culture, embrace new and different experiences and step outside your comfort zone. The language skills, autonomy, adaptability, open-mindedness and empathy you’ll gain will be valuable assets for your future employers.

  • Learn a new language day by day: English, Chinese, German, Spanish and more
Stand out to recruiters: an international background shows that you are autonomous, open-minded and curious.
Rediscover yourself: cultural immersion in a new country brings great personal enrichment, fostering maturity and independence.
Secure a solid, international future for yourself: moving abroad is a step toward a more international professional path. Nearly 70% of our young graduates start their careers abroad.
Discover the cuisines of the world: uncover new culinary specialties, new flavors and relearn the history of gastronomy through trips to Asia, Latin America or South Africa.
